Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso Assures He Has Not Made Contact With Florentino Perez
One of Florentino’s supposed target to rebuild Los Blancos has affirmed that he has yet to be approach by anyone from the Spanish capital.
Over the past few weeks, there were rife reports in the Spanish
media that Real Madrid presidential candidate, Florentino Perez, had pin-pointed Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso as one of the many star players he would like to sign should he regain control of the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, the 27-year-old Spanish international has assured his Anfield fans that so far, no one has made any approaches to lure him away from Merseyside.
“I do not like commenting on rumours. I have not had any contact from Florentino Perez and I do not have anything more to say,” he told reporters during a press conference after yesterday’s training session with the Spanish national team.
The ex-Real Sociedad deep-lying playmaker, who almost joined Los Blancos in 2004 when Perez was still the president, continued to stress that he is not bothered by any transfer speculation that may crop up in the future.
“I’m used to all these rumours and the truth is that I always stay calm. I only focus on what I need to do at present and right now, I’m only concerned about the game on Saturday against Turkey,” he emphasised.
Alonso will be at the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday when Spain take on the Turks in the fifth game of their 2010 World Cup qualifier.
